World Mental Health Day 2019

As we mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October, we're highlighting some of the ways you can stay active and healthy, and improve your wellbeing, as well as where you can go to seek help if you need it.

Mental health in Camden website:

If you’re experiencing depression, anxiety or other forms of mental distress, it’s important to get help as soon as possible. A range of services and support are available in Camden for people experiencing mental health issues. Visit mentalhealthcamden.co.uk to find out more.

Suicide prevention campaign:

Every 40 seconds, someone loses their life to suicide. On 10 October there is a '40 seconds of action' campaign to raise awareness of the scale of suicide around the world and the role that each of us can play to help prevent it.

Improve your mental and physical wellbeing:

Moving more has huge benefits for both our mental and physical wellbeing. Evidence shows that physical activity can boost our moods, help to manage stress and anxiety and improve self-esteem. Taking part in group activities is also a great way to socialise and meet new people. There are lots of fun activities going on across Camden that you can get involved in, whatever your age or ability - from walking groups and gardening sessions to dance classes and swimming for families. Visit wecanmove.co.uk to find activities, resources and tips on moving more in Camden.

Other key services and support:

iCope offers a range of free, confidential help for problems such as stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. You can self-refer or ask your GP to refer you. Available for adults only.

Camden Hub - Camden’s mental health wellbeing centre, offering a six to eight-week prevention service and personalised and recovery focused activities. They also help people to live independently and offer a range of emotional and practical support for adults experiencing mental health problems.

Children and young people:

The Hive Camden supports young people aged 16 to 24 with their health and wellbeing, as well as offering advice about a range of other local services in a welcoming centre.

Free training for everyone:

The C&I Recovery College is a provider of mental health and wellbeing training courses, which teach people practical self-care tools to improve their wellbeing. Courses are provided by tutors with professional and lived experience of mental and physical health challenges. Professionals include psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses and social workers from Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust, as well as experts from the voluntary sector, including local charity Mind in Camden (see above), Mary Ward Legal Centre and Castlehaven. You can download a copy of their course guide here and their       course calendar here.

Zero Suicide Alliance has developed a short online training course. It's 20 minutes long, really well put together and very accessible. Do share it with colleagues and friends.
