Winter weather updates

In the event of snow and ice in Camden, this page will provide daily updates on gritting and any issues or changes to services caused by the weather. Information for borough staff may also be included.

(16/12/22):

The cold snap continues and our gritters have been out again in Camden.

We are gritting main roads, bus routes and areas around transport hubs, hospitals and emergency services, as well as the borough's side roads.

Street cleaning is currently suspended.  Our crews are concentrating on hand gritting as many roads and pavements as possible.

Recycling and rubbish collections

Our crews are undertaking recycling and rubbish collections as usual. However, due to the weather conditions some collections may have been missed.

If this affects you, please leave your bins out for collection where possible. Our crews will be working over the weekend to try and clear any backlog.

You can read more information about recycling and rubbish collections here.

Public grit bins in Camden

Where’s my nearest grit bin?

There are more than 170 grit bins in Camden which residents are welcome to use to grit public roads and footpaths. Please don’t remove grit for use on private paths or drives.

Check the website for your nearest grit bin.

My local grit bin is empty, who do I contact?

You can report empty grit bins directly to Veolia – please telephone 020 3567 8105 or email: uk.occamden@veolia.com

We’ll try our best to refill bins within 24 hours when weather conditions and resources allow.

Gritting on housing estates

Caretakers have a supply of grit on estates and prioritise spots where it’s needed

These spots include main entrances, sheltered housing areas, ramps, hills or where vulnerable and elderly residents live.

Help for people rough sleeping

Camden Routes off The Street (RTS) objective is to ensure that all rough sleepers in the borough receive an offer, which means they no longer have to sleep rough and are able to rebuild their lives away from the street.

During freezing conditions, Camden operates a severe weather protocol, which provides additional temporary beds.

This winter we are working with our partners to ensure that nobody sleeps on the street in freezing conditions and that the accommodation provided is safe for them to use.

If you see someone sleeping rough, please let us know via the Streetsafe app or by phone on 020 7846 3535 to help us find them and offer support.

To download the app go to www.camdenrts.co.uk or search 'Camden safer streets'
