Weekend activities for Chalcots residents

Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council, said:

“I am pleased to say that we have now reached the stage where no residents are requesting to stay overnight at the rest centre at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, and are therefore able to close this today.

“We know that Swiss Cottage has become a central place for residents to seek advice and talk to each other over the last week. We therefore want to ensure that we continue to have a community hub at this location.

“You will find council officers in the library who will continue to be able to support you and answer any questions you may have.

“From Saturday, all Chalcots residents, as well as our pay and play customers are invited to collect vouchers from Swiss Cottage library which will enable them to enjoy free swimming, badminton, table tennis and soft play at the reopened leisure centre.

“We would like to invite residents to join us at Swiss Cottage library this weekend for fun, free baby rhyme-time sessions. We are also planning further free activities for families so please ask a member of staff who will be able to provide you with more information.

“Food will be available for residents who require it, with breakfast and dinner being served in the library and lunch being served in the leisure centre.

“I would like to take this opportunity to offer my thanks to all the amazing voluntary and community organisations, individual volunteers and GLL staff that have helped us at this difficult time.

“The community has come together over the last week. Their generosity and assistance has without a doubt helped us reduce the impact of these unprecedented events.

“Again I want to thank residents of Chalcots for their patience at this time and reassure you we are working day and night to complete urgent works on your blocks.”

Residents staying in temporary accommodation or with family and friends will receive £20 per person, per day for food and essentials. All adults and children in a household will receive this allowance - so, for example, a family of four would receive £80 per day.
