Transport for London bus consultation - have your say

Transport for London (TfL) is consulting on changes to bus routes that go through Camden.

The proposed changes to bus routes in central London will reduce the number of buses using Oxford Street by 40%.

TfL is carrying out this consultation because it says people are changing the way they travel, and so that they can respond better to changing demand. Following investment in Underground and Crossrail services, including at Tottenham Court Road, TfL predicts that demand for buses will fall on Oxford Street. TfL says that reducing the number of buses using Oxford Street means that the remaining services can move through central London quickly and reliably, while more bus services can be provided to improve connectivity around Crossrail stations in outer London.

The proposed changes affect 22 bus routes. These are the ones that will impact Camden:

Route Proposed changes
3 Buses will be rerouted to run up Charing Cross Road instead of Regent's Street, and will terminate at Russell Square.
242 Buses will terminate at St Paul’s station. The section between St Paul’s and Tottenham Court Road will no longer operate.
8

Buses have been temporarily starting and finishing at Tottenham Court Road instead of Oxford Circus since August 2013. TfL proposes to make this permanent. However, the terminus arrangements will be different. Westbound buses will continue along High Holborn instead of New Oxford Street, continuing to St Giles High Street and stand on Earnshaw Street, using the stand currently used by route 242. Eastbound services will run along New Oxford Street, Bloomsbury Way and back to the existing route.

C2 Buses will run between Parliament Hill Fields and Conduit Street only. The section between Victoria and Regent’s Street will no longer run.
46

Buses will terminate at Paddington Station, and no longer serve Lancaster Gate.

332

Buses will be rerouted to turn off Kilburn High Road at Cambridge Road, and continue along Kilburn Park Road to Paddington.

73

Buses will run between Stoke Newington and Oxford Circus only. The section of the route between Victoria and Oxford Circus will no longer run.

390

Buses will maintain the connection from King’s Cross to Victoria: however, they will be rerouted down Park Lane to connect to Victoria instead of continuing to Notting Hill.
