Transformation underway for Talacre Community Sports Centre

Community events will be held at the Centre this summer to celebrate the completion of the project. In the meantime, renovations are being carried out in phases so that the Centre can remain open throughout.

Here are just some of the changes being made: 

• 100sqm of additional gymnastics space with new equipment, accommodating 15 extra gymnasts per session  
• A new multi-purpose studio, increasing the capacity for adult classes to 25 per session, including a new programme of activities starting this summer 
• A new classroom space for young people’s physical education and training
• A new park-facing cafe with public toilets and a Changing Places facility

As part of the modernisation, the Centre will be made more accessible – a new lift and wheelchair storage area are to be installed, as well as more accessible toilets, improved access to the park and a revamped reception area. 

Decarbonisation of the Centre will begin as soon as the remodel is complete. The works, which will include the replacement of gas boilers with air source heat pumps, will reduce around 85% of carbon associated with water heating and 44% of carbon associated with gas heating.

The Centre was fitted with solar panels in 2023, helping to reduce energy bills on the site for the next 20 years and strengthen the resilience of Camden’s leisure facilities.

This remodel forms part of a wider programme of work part-funded by the Council’s successful Levelling Up Fund bid to create a healthy and connected neighbourhood.
