Swiss Cottage Open Space recognised by national landscape award

Swiss Cottage Open Space has recently been awarded a National Landscape Award in the Community & Schools Development category.

The BALI National Landscape Awards, run annually by the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI), are the UK’s leading awards for excellence in landscaping. They recognise the very best standards of design, construction, maintenance, and innovation across the landscape industry.

Councillor Adam Harrison, Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden

I am delighted that Swiss Cottage Open Space has received this accolade, as a park that has recently benefited from our ongoing Green Space Improvement Programme. It is a testament to the hard work and high standards of our officers, design teams and contractors.

It’s important we make all our parks in Camden as welcoming, green and biodiverse as possible. At Swiss Cottage, we listened to residents’ ideas which has seen new planted terraces and mounds of meadow grass, ‘rain gardens’ that help retain water and improve biodiversity, and an improved toddler play area with new play equipment, seating and planting installed.

These improvements have already proved popular, and it is great to see more people now using the park to relax and play. Parks like Swiss Cottage are important to our local communities because they improve health and wellbeing, the character of an area, as well as creating habitats for wildlife and benefit the environment.

This is the start of a larger plan of investment at Swiss Cottage open space, over the next few years local people can expect to see an additional play for older children, chess and table tennis equipment, a new outdoor gym area, skating plaza (behind the Leisure Centre) and greening improvements to Eton Avenue Market.
