Statement on the Passing of His Holiness Pope Francis

Statement from the Co-Chairs of Camden’s Faith Forum on the Passing of His Holiness Pope Francis 

"As Co-Chairs of the Camden Faith Forum, we join Catholic residents, as well as those of all faiths and none, in mourning the loss of His Holiness Pope Francis - a spiritual leader who inspired millions around the world. 

"Pope Francis was a global figure whose leadership extended far beyond the Roman Catholic Church. As the first Pope from the Global South, he brought a powerful and inclusive voice to the Vatican, championing the poor and challenging inequality. 

"He was widely recognised for his enduring commitment to peace, social justice, and interfaith dialogue. 

"Throughout his papacy, he called for urgent action on climate change, and consistently spoke out in favour of compassion, unity, and human dignity. 

"Here in Camden, we are proud of our diverse and inclusive community, which includes a significant number of Catholic residents as well as many who found inspiration in Pope Francis’ messages of tolerance and hope. 

"His legacy will be felt by local parish communities, schools, and organisations whose values align closely with his call for global solidarity and care for one another. 

"We extend our sincere condolences to the Catholic community here in Camden and across the world, as well as to those who found inspiration in Pope Francis. 

"We are aware that many local partners are making arrangements for residents to come together in remembrance and reflection. 

“The Dominican friars at St Dominic’s Gospel Oak are inviting all who would like a space to remember the late Pope to join them for a Requiem Mass on Wednesday 30th April, with the Mass taking place at 6pm. The details of this event can be found here.”
