Statement on Kentish Town Police Station front counter

Councillor Richard Olszewski, Leader of Camden Council said:

“I am delighted that the Metropolitan Police have reconsidered its plans to close the front counter at Kentish Town Police Station.

“Camden is famous for its night-time economy, as well as being the home of national and international transport hubs. While this brings great opportunity and vibrancy to the borough, these qualities can make us more vulnerable to higher levels of crime, anti-social behaviour and rough sleeping.

“As the only the police station front counter within Camden, I was concerned that any possible closure would impact our vulnerable residents the most. Many in our community still rely on in-person services and for good reason, such as not having the digital skills or access to report incidents online. Also, cases involving violence against women and girls must be handled with care, sensitivity and a personal approach that digital channels simply can’t provide.
