Proposed additional licensing scheme for Barnet

Barnet Council is seeking the views of people in neighbouring boroughs as well as in Barnet on proposals to introduce a new license for landlords of certain kinds of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).

HMOs are houses or flats which are home to more than one household and include shared accommodation, bedsits and certain types of buildings poorly converted into flats.

The consultation was launched on 25 June and will run until 23 October 2015.

As part of the consultation Barnet Council is keen to hear from landlords, tenants, residents, businesses and other interested parties both in the borough and in surrounding areas, including Camden.

Barnet’s aim with licensing is to make sure that the quality of private rented accommodation is high and that properties are safe for tenants.
