Over 22,000 households in Camden to continue receiving Council Tax support

Tonight (14, Dec) Cabinet agreed to extend Camden’s Council Tax Support scheme to continue to help residents and families on the lowest incomes.

The Council Tax Support scheme for 2023/2024, will support nearly 22,500 households in the borough with their council tax bills, with 16,000 households in most need not paying at all.

Camden Council is investing over £28m in the scheme to provide financial support to residents on benefits and low incomes, ensuring it remains one of the most generous Council Tax support schemes in the capital.

This support sits alongside an additional £2m investment in a cost-of-living crisis fund and other help and prevention services to help residents cope with rising living costs.

Councillor Richard Olszewski, Cabinet Member for Finance and Cost of Living

We know this is a particularly challenging and worrying time for many of our residents. That’s why in Camden we are doing all we can to stand by those who are being hit hardest by rising living costs.

Our support includes investing over £28m into our Council Tax Support Scheme, which is one of the most generous council tax reduction schemes in the country. We are supporting almost 22,500 households in Camden with their Council Tax bills, 15,999 of which are receiving 100% support and have nothing to pay. Anyone who is struggling or worried about their ability to pay their council tax, even if you do not think you may be eligible for our Council Tax support scheme itself, please get in touch with us to discuss the support available to you.

Councillor Richard Olszewski, Cabinet Member for Finance and Cost of Living

Camden’s Council Tax Support Scheme is a reduction in Council Tax for people on a low income. If you’re eligible for it, we will reduce the amount of council tax you need to pay.

The current scheme was launched two years ago and will remain in place for 2023/2024 with income bands lifted in line with the new levels for London Living Wage.
