No more rubbish excuses – no excuse for fly-tipping and littering in Camden
Camden Council have expanded its enforcement service and increased fines to address the issues of fly tipping and littering which can blight Camden for residents and businesses.
Residents are angry at the impact dumped rubbish has on their communities. That’s why we are taking tough action against people and businesses who fly-tip and litter in Camden.
Fly-tipping is one of the biggest issues impacting our neighbourhoods. It costs the taxpayer more than £685,000 year to clean up, so we are sending a message to anyone dumping rubbish that they will face fines or prosecution.
We have enhanced our environmental enforcement – including launching a new community safety enforcement team and increasing fines for offenders to stamp out such behaviour. Fly tipping and littering are illegal – if you do it, you could be fined.
Your waste is your responsibility and if you don’t dispose of it properly you could face £120 fine for littering and a £1,000 fine for fly-tipping.
We also regularly check if businesses have a proper contract in place for their waste collections. When they don’t, they often simply dump their rubbish in black bags, blighting their own neighbourhood.
We continue to invest around £6 million a year into cleaning the streets in Camden, and we will continue to do all we can to clamp down on bad behaviour and work with our residents and communities who want to look after our residential areas and high streets.
We also run our popular Love Clean Streets app. This helps us remove 99% of fly tips within 24 hours, and often more quickly than this. Anyone can also report litter, dog mess, and graffiti – and more.
- Camden Council is committed to improving the local environment through a variety of action plans and campaigns to support the Camden 2025 challenge of creating clean, vibrant and sustainable places. Enforcement is through Fixed Penalty Notices – on-the-spot fines of £1,000 for fly-tipping (reduced to £500 if paid within 10 days), and £120 for litter dropping (reduced to £100 if paid within 10 days), including cigarette butts and dropped food and drinks packaging.
