New Chief Digital and Information Officer for three North London boroughs

Camden, Haringey and Islington have appointed a single head of a new shared ICT and Digital service after a highly competitive process involving almost 100 applicants.

Ed Garcez will move from leading the ICT shared service for Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and the Royal Borough Kensington and Chelsea – and brings a wealth of shared service experience to his new role.

Ed Garcez said: “I am delighted to be joining Camden, Haringey and Islington at this exciting time and in such an innovative role.

“The three councils have a reputation for delivering the best, value for money services. I am looking forward to being part of the new shared Digital and ICT service and the exciting journey of service transformation, to make connecting with the councils easier for residents."

Councillor Theo Blackwell, Cabinet Member for Finance, Technology and Growth at Camden Council, said: “Our new Chief Digital and Information Officer will help transform the way 700,000 residents in North London digitally connect with us. Our digital capability is increasingly important in underpinning many of the services we provide to our residents and Ed Garcez’s experience of leading a tri-borough shared ICT and Digital Service in his previous role will give us a great platform to continue to improve this.”

All three boroughs already use a wide range of technologies to work with increasing efficiency and to deliver enhanced digital services for their residents.

These range from websites and apps to assistive technology, as well as newer platforms that enable staff to work on the move, saving time and money.

A start date will soon be agreed.
