Milestone hit as 10 affordable family-sized homes completed in Somers Town
The Council have unveiled ten new family-sized homes on the Godwin and Crowndale Estate in Central Somers Town – the latest housing project to be completed as part of Camden’s Community Investment Programme (CIP).
Families will soon move into the ten high-quality, four-bedroom homes, which include a fully wheelchair-accessible property. The project also included wider improvements to the estate including greening and public realm enhancements.
All ten homes on the Godwin and Crowndale estate are for social rent and will be managed by Camden Living Housing Association (CLHA) – the new Camden-owned provider of affordable housing and part of the Camden Living Group.
As a registered provider, CLHA can access government funding to offer homes at social rent levels, with the long-term aim of Camden Living acquiring up to 1,000 properties.
We are doing everything we can to build more high-quality homes in Camden, ease local housing pressures, and support families on our waiting list. The completion of these ten new four-bedroom homes is fantastic news for the community, providing much-needed space for families to grow and thrive.
Through our ambitious Community Investment Programme, we are building the new homes our borough needs to help address the housing crisis and improve the living conditions for our residents. Since 2010, we’ve directly delivered over 1,750 homes and unlocked a further 336 built by other developers - with 60% of all these homes being affordable tenures. The work doesn’t stop here, we have more CIP projects reaching completion this year with many more shovel-ready developments ready to go.
We are proud that Camden Living Housing Association will soon be welcoming residents into these ten new family-sized affordable homes. As part of the wider Camden housing family, we share the borough’s core values and goals to provide affordable and high-quality homes for our residents. By offering genuinely affordable social rent tenancies, we provide stability for Camden residents while taking action to help reduce the increasing pressure on the local affordable housing market.
Residents are expected to move into the new homes over the course of the summer. Families living in the existing Godwin and Crowndale Estate will be prioritised for the new homes through the Local Lettings Policy.
