Marian Harrington is the independent chair of the Chalcots review

Marian Harrington has been named as the independent chair of the Chalcots review.

The first phase of the review will look at the evacuation of the Chalcots Estate in June 2017 and the emergency management, and the second phase will look more widely at the refurbishment of the buildings and their management.

A Strategic Director of Adult and Community Services at Westminster City Council until 2011, Marian independently chaired three Adult Safeguarding Boards, examining safeguarding matters in Islington, Camden and Enfield until 2016.

Marian Harrington, Independent Chair of the Chalcots Review, said: “I am looking forward to working with residents, Camden Council and their wider partners to learn lessons from the Chalcots evacuation and the circumstances surrounding this, which I am sure will be useful to councils across the country in the future. I am determined to ensure that the voice of residents is at the forefront of the review – and look forward to getting this process underway.”

While in Westminster, Marian was responsible for the humanitarian response to a number of major incidents, working with central government on services to families affected by the 7/7 bombings. Marian has carried out reviews and independent scrutiny of adult safeguarding and emergency cover arrangements for a range of statutory agencies and private and voluntary organisations.

Marian has begun work on the first phase of the review immediately by reviewing documents and evidence submitted by residents. Marian will set out further details on how she intends to hear evidence and timescales for compiling her report.
