Leader on Omicron variant being found in Camden

Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council, has issued a message to all residents after receiving confirmation that the Omicron variant has been identified in Camden.

Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council
“We have been notified by the UK Heath Security Agency of three cases of covid-19 with the Omicron variant in Camden. All cases are within the same family and they all remain at home. We are offering them support and wish them a speedy recovery.

“We recognise this may be a worrying time for the community and we are taking action with UKHSA colleagues to identify any contacts and offer them testing.  It’s more important than ever that everyone follows public health advice: Wearing a face covering in shops, on public transport and in crowded areas, test before you meet people. Meeting outside or in well ventilated places can help prevent the spread Covid-19.

‘’I’m concerned for those who have not yet received their Covid-19 vaccines. There is evidence to suggest this variant spreads quickly and those who are unvaccinated are at increased risk of becoming seriously unwell, needing hospital treatment and passing Covid-19 to others. Many Camden residents are still coming forward for their first vaccine and we’re here to support you. Just call 119 or go to nhs.uk/coronavirus to find a centre near you"
Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council
