January Cabinet: Supporting our families and providing quality homes for tenants
On Wednesday 14 January, Camden’s Cabinet will meet to discuss a range of items aimed at making Camden residents’ lives better.
These will include agreeing the 2026/27 housing budget, with a focus on investing in council homes and setting fair rents, supporting families in need during the school holidays and proposing measures to tackle anti-social behaviour caused by irresponsible drinking in public.
We are here to support residents at every stage of their lives – and these polices and proposals really show that.
We’re helping families with young people who need support with food or activities during the summer right through to helping adults live independently at home.
We’re ridding our streets of nuisance and troublesome anti-social behaviour. And as we set tenants’ rents and charges for the next year, we’re set to keep tenant’s heating charges the same and will of course use the money we receive to improve residents’ homes and invest in tenant services.
Investing in council homes and setting fair rents for residents
Camden’s Cabinet is set to agree the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) budget for 2026/27. Money raised will be fully reinvested into Camden’s housing to help ensure council homes are well maintained and housing services are delivered to a high standard for residents.
The money will also be reinvested into home improvements, making properties more energy efficient – so residents will pay less on their energy bills in the long term.
New powers to tackle anti-social behaviour on our streets
Camden’s Cabinet is also set to approve the public consultation of a borough-wide Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to stop irresponsible alcohol consumption on the streets and in local parks.
The proposal sets out new restrictions and penalties against those causing alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in public spaces, giving the police and council enforcement officers extra powers to tackle this.
Working together with residents to make Camden a safer place
Camden’s Cabinet will review a report on how the council is involving residents in its work to continue tackling anti-social behaviour across the borough.
Cabinet Members are set to agree to recommendations to help all residents feel safer and have their experiences heard.
Free holiday activities and meals for Camden children set to continue to 2029
Camden’s Cabinet is also set to agree the continuation of the partnership with the Young Camden Foundation as the council’s delivery partner for the Camden Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme to 2029.
The Young Camden Foundation has led the programme since 2021, providing more than 22,000 places for children and young people in Camden during the school holidays. The programme works with voluntary and community organisations, schools and sports clubs to deliver free, fun holiday activities.
Strengthening care and support so that more people can live well in their own homes and neighbourhoods.
Camden’s Cabinet will consider a long-term commissioning strategy for care and support at home services. This approach builds on Camden’s established neighbourhood-based model and learning, strengthening care and support at home so that more people can live well, and age well, in their own homes and neighbourhoods.
LGA gives Camden a positive report in its Corporate Peer Challenge
Camden’s Cabinet will also note a highly positive report from the Local Government Association (LGA) following Camden’s 2025 Corporate Peer Challenge.
The independent review found Camden to be a well-run, high-performing council, with strong leadership, a clear values-led culture and a commitment to working together with residents and partners which is delivering better outcomes for residents.
