International compost awareness week is from 1 to 7 May

Did you know that about 30% of the average contents of your home dustbin could be composted?

This helps cut down on waste sent to landfill – and feeds your garden.

Making compost is not as complicated as you might think. All you need to do is provide the right ingredients and let nature do the rest. It’s an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into a valuable and nutrient-rich food for your garden.

If you want to learn how to compost, watch this video.

Do you need compost?

Are you already a keen gardener or starting a community project? Maybe you’ve got an allotment? Thirty-litre bags of compost are available for £3 from Regis Road Reuse and Recycling Centre NW5 3EW.

You could also get a £5 compost bin to kick-start composting for the summer. Visit Camden Getcomposting to order your new bin.
