HS2: Come along to community meetings for updates on HS2 Ltd’s commitments to Camden

During the parliamentary process stage of the High Speed 2 Act, Camden Council secured important commitments (known as assurances) from HS2 Ltd that will help to reduce the negative impact of construction on residents.

Come along to the community meetings we’re holding to find out how we are working to ensure HS2 Ltd meets these commitments:

Air quality, trees, open spaces and environmental data

There will be an opportunity to hear updates from Council officers on each area of assurances and to ask questions.

Updates on assurances

The meetings will cover updates on many assurances including:​

  • Air quality: limits on construction vehicle emissions and a commitment that HS2 Ltd will look for ways to maximise construction and waste materials transported by rail.
  • Trees and open spaces: HS2 Ltd will fund the replacement of all trees lost (expected to be around 500) and has committed to providing quality replacement space, some of which will be replaced as part of the HS2 scheme. We also secured funding to improve and create green spaces in impacted areas during the construction period.
  • Environmental data: HS2 Ltd will share data with the Council and the community about construction activity, including air quality, dust and noise monitoring information, and the actions taken when trigger levels are breached.
  • Euston: We secured representation on strategic boards to ensure the Council can push for the comprehensive redevelopment of Euston station and plan for the future of the Euston area.
  • Community engagement: HS2 Ltd has committed to better two-way community engagement, seeking views from residents and responding to feedback.
  • Employment and skills: Through our King’s Cross construction skills centre, we are working with contractors to develop new programmes to help residents develop skills needed to access local employment opportunities. We also secured £4.1 million towards a Euston area construction skills centre, expected to open in 2020.
  • Funding for support workers for vulnerable residents.
  • Measures to reduce impacts on schools and businesses.
