Have your say on the Camden Local Plan proposed submission draft
Residents, businesses, community groups, and visitors are invited to have their say on the next version of Camden Council’s draft Local Plan.
The draft new Local Plan sets out our vision for future development in the borough for the next 15 years and includes planning policies and site allocations to help us achieve this.
We previously consulted on the draft Local Plan at the start of 2024, and this version of the Local Plan has been prepared considering the comments made during that consultation.
Camden’s Local Plan has helped us ensure that we can deliver award winning development across the borough, providing vital homes and jobs whilst protecting and enhancing what makes Camden such a great area to live, work and visit.
We are updating it to ensure it remains fit for the future, so following on from last year’s consultation we have now our proposed submission of the Local Plan which we want to hear your views on.
The new Local Plan sets out an ambitious vision for the borough to ensure Camden is a place where everyone has a chance to succeed and where nobody gets left behind.
It aims to secure thousands of new homes and prioritise the delivery of genuinely affordable homes, and support Camden’s successful economy, maximising opportunities for local people and businesses to share in its success.
Key elements set out in the Local Plan Proposed Submission Draft are set out below:
- Seeking to maximise the supply of housing and affordable homes, aiming to deliver a minimum of 11,550 additional homes to 2041.
- An area-based approach setting out the overarching strategy to guide the delivery of new development in the South, Central, West and North areas of Camden.
- Proposing around 70 site allocations to help deliver new homes, jobs, open space, health and community facilities, leisure, retail and recreation opportunities together with necessary infrastructure, while including policies to respond to the climate and ecological emergency and help deliver the Council’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
- Including polices to deliver a sustainable and inclusive economy and support the delivery of affordable workspace.
- Seeking to promote health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities by ensuring that development in the borough considers these issues at an early stage in the planning process.
- Emphasising the importance of celebrating and reflecting the diversity of the borough in the design of spaces and places.

Responses should be submitted by 5pm on Friday 27 June 2025.
Further information
- The review of the Local Plan must follow a statutory process. Representations received as part of this consultation will be submitted with the Plan and supporting documents to the government in the Autumn for examination by a Planning Inspector. The examination will include public hearing sessions involving objectors and other participants invited by the Inspector. These are expected to take place in early 2026.
- Following receipt of the Inspector’s report on the Plan and consideration of any recommended amendments, the final version of the Local Plan will be reported to Cabinet and Full Council for adoption.
