Friday 3 August 2018 - The latest news and updates from the Chalcots Estate

The Chalcots Works Group is held at the estate with TRA reps, councillors and council officers in attendance and is chaired by a TRA rep. They meet regularly to discuss works matters on the estate. This newsletter includes feedback from the Chalcots Works Group meeting on Wednesday 18 July 2018, present at the meeting were representatives from Blashford, Taplow, Burnham, Bray and Dorney. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 8 August.

Reporting repairs made easier

  • Did you know that the quickest way to report a repair is via the Camden Account? The Camden Account is an online tool where you can access all of your Camden services in one place. You can report repairs, view and pay your council tax bills, set up direct debits, pay for resident parking permits, report missed bin collections, view housing rent statements, benefit claims and much more.
  • It takes less than five minutes to sign up for a Camden Account – register for yours today at camden.gov.uk/camdenaccount
  • If you need help setting up your account, you can visit the floating support drop-in sessions held every Wednesday.

Replacement windows

It was raised in the Chalcots Works Group meeting that residents have asked for more detail on the window restrictors and how they will work with the replacement windows. Camden are in conversation with technical experts on the options and once a contractor is appointed we will engage with you further around all window design features.

Enhanced security on your blocks

We sent you a letter on Monday to tell you that the fire wardens are no longer needed on the estate and will be replaced by an enhanced security presence. We remind you that the contact number for security remains the same. To report vandalism or other antisocial behaviour call the security team as normal on 07903 232 592. This line is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Asbestos surveys

  • We continue to carry out asbestos surveys across the estate. These surveys need to be completed before the next phase of works begin. Thank you to everyone who has worked with the RLOs to give us access to your homes.
  • We still need access to some flats. If you have not yet had an asbestos survey, contact your RLO to book an appointment as soon as possible. If you are away over the next few weeks let us know so we can find a convenient time to carry out your survey.

Getting to know your caretakers

  • Lots of different officers and contractors work on the Chalcots, and in the coming months there will be even more. It was raised in the Chalcots Works Group meeting that residents would like to know more about what our caretakers do and how they can be contacted. Here is a short explanation about their role so that you can become more familiar with the people working on your estate.
  • There are five caretakers at the Chalcots Estate. They wear green t-shirts or green coats with the Camden logo on the front and grey trousers.
  • The caretakers are responsible for the upkeep of your communal areas such as entrances, lifts, internal stairs and landings, ensuring they are clean and safe.
  • They also visit vulnerable residents ensuring they are safe and comfortable in their homes, and report incidents of antisocial behaviour when they arise.
  • To report a cleaning issue within the communal areas to the caretakers please contact the estate services supervisor, Paul Johnson on 07956 118 233 or email [email protected] You will also find these contact details displayed in the notice boards of all blocks.

Hot weather advice

It has been extremely hot over the last few weeks. Follow these tips to stay safe and cool in the heatwave:

  • Chalcots residents can cool down at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre at the weekends with free swimming between 10am and 5pm on Saturdays and 10am and 3pm on Sundays – remember to bring a proof of address.
  • To prevent fires we remind residents to keep mirrors, glass ornaments and other reflective objects out of direct sunlight at all times. Place them in a shaded area of your home or close curtains in rooms that face the sun, which will also keep indoor spaces cooler.
  • While the grass is so dry, there is a temporary ban on barbecues in Camden’s parks and open spaces to prevent fires. Please do not take barbecues to a park during the warm weather. Why not take a picnic instead?
  • Older people can become isolated in hot weather. Check on your elderly neighbours who might be stuck at home because of the heat or other health conditions, and are at more risk of illness when it is very warm. If you are concerned about vulnerable or elderly residents, call 111 or contact your housing officer. For more advice visit nhs.uk/heatwave
