December Cabinet: Council tax support and reducing rough sleeping
On Wednesday 10 December, Camden’s Cabinet is set to review and approve initiatives to boost support for households experiencing financial difficulty, increase bed spaces for people sleeping rough, and continue tackling the climate crisis.

Supporting thousands of households with council tax reductions
Camden’s Cabinet is set to agree to continue its significant Council Tax Support scheme for low-income households, keeping the threshold in line with the new London Living Wage announced earlier this year.
Members will also consider a new discount for residents who are terminally ill and experiencing financial difficulty – so they receive 100% support and do not pay any Council Tax.
280 extra bed spaces and enhanced support for people experiencing rough sleeping
Cabinet is also set to approve a new five-year strategy to address the urgent homelessness and rough sleeping crisis in the borough.
This partnership-led plan, developed with community groups and people with lived experience of rough sleeping, includes 280 additional bed spaces in family-sized temporary accommodation and joined-up support from housing, health, and social care services.
The plan also includes introducing ‘personal passports’ to improve residents’ access to support, tailored to their needs.
New Climate Action Plan to strengthen climate commitment
Cabinet will review a new Climate Action Plan for 2026-2030, developed by community voices and building on the achievements of the previous plan over the last five years.
The plan includes building better resilience to the impact of the climate crisis we’re already experiencing, including hotter temperatures and flooding, particularly looking after vulnerable residents. It also details ways in which greener action could help relieve cost-of-living pressures and reduce the cost of household bills.
Investing in Camden’s green spaces
To continue protecting and improving parks and natural spaces in Camden, Cabinet will consider a new Green Space Investment Programme for 2026-2040. This is set to encourage healthier and happier lifestyles, by making green spaces more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
This Cabinet is addressing some of the most challenging and pressing issues residents are facing – increasing support for households struggling to pay their bills and providing safe accommodation for people to move away from living on the streets.
