Cross-party councillors back Camden's forward-thinking bid for London Borough of Culture

Cross-party councillors came together at Camden’s full Council meeting this week (23 October) to back our bid to become London Borough of Culture.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has launched the London Borough of Culture programme, inviting London boroughs to bid for £1.1 million in funding to deliver high quality cultural activities. The winning borough will be announced in February 2018.

I’m backing Camden’s bid for London Borough of Culture because we want to create a fantastic and ambitious programme of events across the year that offer many more opportunities for all Camden residents to get involved in the outstanding creativity, culture and the arts our borough has to offer. Camden is at the heart of London’s music scene, home to many world-class cultural institutions, and through St Pancras, we are the gateway to Europe and business in London.

We would use the money to build on what we’re good at to create even stronger partnerships that bring our communities together, widen access to Camden’s culture, and boost our creative industries to reduce uncertainties caused by Brexit. I encourage everyone to get involved to celebrate culture and support our bid to help us become London Borough of Culture.
Councillor Jonathan Simpson, Cabinet Member for Promoting Culture and Communities
