Councillor Tricia Leman has been made Mayor of Camden for 2026-2027
Councillor Tricia Leman has been made Mayor of Camden for 2026-2027 at the full council meeting on Wednesday 20 May 2026. Councillor Sylvia McNamara was appointed as Deputy Mayor.
Councillor Leman, a Councillor for Camden Square Ward, has chosen Women at The Well as her charity to fundraise for during her Mayoral term.

The charity opened in King’s Cross in 2007 and is a women’s day centre and outreach service for women facing multiple disadvantages. It has a specialism in working with women whose lives are affected by prostitution, trafficking and related forms of sexual exploitation. They run a no appointment women only drop-in service with hot food, showers and laundry, and offer long-term one to one support and advocacy.

“It is a privilege to be Mayor of Camden, a borough of sanctuary where all are welcomed and where we share a proud tradition of diversity and inclusion. In Camden, we actively tackle injustice and inequality, and work to create safe strong communities for everyone.
“Women at The Well is my chosen Mayor’s charity that provides practical support and advocacy for women who have been affected by sexual exploitation. In my mayoral year I want to raise awareness across the borough of the important ongoing work the Council and my chosen charity Women at The Well are doing. I want to ensure that we’re all aware of the signs of domestic abuse, and know where to go for support and advice, so we can guide and direct women who need help and help them access support or training if needed.
“During my mayoral year, I’ll champion the fight to end violence against women and girls and raise awareness of the work we are doing in Camden to challenge discrimination and misogyny wherever it occurs.”

We feel this shows real solidarity with local women who have often faced difficulties since their childhoods. We will use this spotlight with the Mayor, Cllr Leman to show that dedicated, one-to-one support is the key to no woman being left behind in Camden, and we urge local businesses, employers and members of the community to reach out to us and share our hope for better, safer futures for women of all ages and backgrounds.”
Cllr Tricia Leman grew up in South Wales in a single parent family and experienced the impact of domestic abuse on family life. Her school was an important source of support and encouragement, and she became the first in her family to go to a university. She is a lifelong feminist and has served as a member of the Trade Union Congress National Women’s Committee campaigning to defend women’s rights in employment and to close the gender pay gap. Tricia has lived in Camden for over 36 years and raised her family here.
Before being elected as the Mayor of Camden, Cllr Leman held several roles within the Council including Deputy Mayor and served as a member of the Council Scrutiny Committees for Children, Schools and Families; and Health and Social Care. She was also a member of the Council’s Licensing Committee, where she has supported the “Ask for Angela” campaign.
