Council Leader on the release of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori

Read a statement from Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council, following the release of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori.

Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council

I’m delighted that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori have been released and Nazanin is finally on her way back home to Camden. It’s difficult to imagine what the last six years have been like for Nazanin and her family, but it’s an incredible feeling knowing that she will be reunited with her loved ones again soon – in particular her husband Richard and her daughter Gabriella.

The determination, strength and courage that Nazanin, Richard and her family and friends have shown during this time has been extraordinary. Richard has been a tireless campaigner, meeting leaders at Number 10 and around the world and keeping this story on the news agenda throughout this time.

There are so many people who have given their support, and I’d like to send a particular heartfelt thank you to Tulip Siddiq who has been relentless in her campaigning and everyone in Camden who has fought so hard for so long. Amid traumatic world events, this is a moment of joy for us to celebrate.
