Camden’s OurBike scheme celebrates further expansion

Download

Camden is celebrating the launch of an expanded network of OurBike, a cargo bike share scheme.

The scheme is provided by Peddle My Wheels and allows residents and businesses to hire electrically assisted cargo bikes by the minute through an app, with the network of OurBikes now expanded from twelve to 16, which is the largest fleet of any London Borough.

Since we launched OurBike in Camden in 2024, an increasing number of people have been hiring the cargo bikes for a wide range of uses including leisure trips, school runs, and for moving recycling and waste, and this summer we passed the milestone of 1,000 bookings, with use continuing to grow across the borough.

It’s great news that we have now expanded into new areas of Camden, including Tufnell Park in my ward where it was great to recently try out a scheme cargo bike - they're so simple to use and accessible, and I was impressed with how easy it was to ride and get around.

They are perfect to hire if you don’t have the storage space, or finances to buy your own personal cargo bike, but need to use one occasionally or regularly, and cost from £5 an hour.

Bookings in Camden have more than quadrupled this year: 905 between January and August 2026, compared with 205 in the same period last year, an increase of 341%, and in total, our OurBike fleet has now covered almost 8,000 km worth of trips.

The bikes are supported by local host businesses and community organisations, which help keep the bikes charged and ready for use. In return, hosts receive 20 hours of free use each month, giving them access to a convenient, zero-emission option for deliveries, stock runs and other local journeys.

New users can also try an OurBike for free for an additional hour, on top of the first complimentary hour, using the voucher code CAMDENADVENTURE.

We are also offering community groups and charities based in the borough 75% off OurBike ride charges for the coming year, helping make sustainable transport more affordable and accessible for local organisations. To find out more about this offer, please contact email: safetravel@camden.gov.uk

Alper Muduroglu, Founder & CEO of PedalUK Ltd:

“Camden shows the potential of making shared cargo bikes part of everyday neighbourhood life. Bookings have more than quadrupled compared with the same period last year, and Camden has contributed over a third of the growth across our network.

“Cargo bikes offer a practical way to carry children, shopping or equipment without needing to own and store a bike yourself. Working with Camden Council and local hosts, we’re making that option available to more people. It’s encouraging to see the expanded fleet being used, and we want to build on that to make choosing a cargo bike easier for everyday journeys.”

The project aims to address the issue of over-dependence on private vehicles, and the associated issues of poor Air Quality, Environment, Safety, Health, and Wellbeing across 6 London boroughs and 6 London Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).
