Camden wins at London Borough Apprenticeship Awards 2022
Camden Council is celebrating after taking two prizes at this year’s London Borough Apprenticeship Awards.
Camden won prizes for ‘Best Progression by an Apprentice’ and ‘Best work with supply chains and local businesses to create new apprenticeships’ at an awards ceremony hosted by London Councils on Friday 4 November.
Akera Okot won the award for best progression after starting an apprenticeship in Camden’s Digital Customer Experience team in 2020 to help manage the Council’s website. Akera was then promoted to Digital Customer Experience Officer in 2021 where he managed multiple projects and worked to make online services easier to use for residents before getting a permanent role as Associate Product Manager earlier this year.
The Council also took home the award for ‘best work with the supply chain and local businesses to create new apprenticeships’, recognising Camden’s commitment to creating good work opportunities for residents in the borough.
These awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate local apprentices and the amazing contributions they’ve made to local government. I’m proud that our work with apprentices and employers has been recognised; last year we delivered 47 apprenticeships, over 120 work experience opportunities and nearly 100 jobs for residents. We also worked to ensure all our partners paid London Living Wage in line with our own apprenticeship pay rates.
A huge congratulations also goes to Akera for taking home the award for best progression which shows how successful undertaking an apprenticeship can be.
The annual awards, which are hosted by London Councils, the cross-party group representing all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, took place at Plaisterer’s Hall and celebrated the huge impact apprentices have made across local government in London.
