Camden statement: Golders Green ambulance attack

An investigation has been launched after four ambulances from Hatzola, a volunteer-led ambulance service run by members of the Jewish community that serves all communities, were set on fire. The police have confirmed this arson attack is being treated as an anti-Semitic hate crime.

Jon Rowney, Chief Executive of Camden Council, said: “This appalling anti-Semitic attack on a volunteer-led ambulance service is deeply distressing for us in Camden and in particular for our Jewish residents. I want to be clear to all our residents and particularly today to those in our Jewish communities, that Camden is no place for hate, we stand with you and are committed to ensuring you are safe and feel safe.

“Together with the police, and with immediate effect, we are carrying out reassurance patrols both around our synagogues and faith sites and in the neighbourhoods close to the borough boundary with Barnet. We are also speaking to Jewish faith leaders and other faith organisations to understand their concerns and offer reassurance.

“In Camden our diversity is our strength – we celebrate this and we’re proud to be a place where mixed communities live together and make our fantastic borough what it is.

“No one in our communities should face violence, intimidation or threats - whether physical or verbal. Please report hate crime if you see or experience it. Camden is no place for hate – and we are here for you.”

If you experience or see a hate crime, or any behaviour that’s hateful and harmful, we’re here for you.
