Camden Safety Hub opens for those who need support on a night out

A new safety hub has opened in Camden for anyone who needs help, support, or someone to talk to during a night out.

Camden Council in partnership with the police launched the Camden Safety Hub to assist people who might find themselves in an uncomfortable situation, vulnerable state or needing some extra help or support during a night out.

Located at Dockray Place, LabTech’s head office in Camden Market Hawley Wharf, the safe space is part of the Council’s ongoing work to improve night-time safety for residents, especially for women and girls.

In addition to offering support at the hub, fully trained staff and volunteers will speak to visitors about ways to have a safe and fun night out, as well as provide water, advice on transport home, help arranging a taxi, and access to phone chargers. Staff will also be trained to signpost anyone who might be in need of help or assistance from the police or medical professionals.

Councillor Pat Callaghan, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities

We want residents and visitors to enjoy Camden’s nightlife and feel safe when out and about in the borough. The Camden Safety Hub is a dedicated space for anyone who needs help at night, whether that’s help getting home or someone to talk to, and we hope it will reassure residents that if you’re in trouble, we’re here to support you. I’d like to thank all our community partners who are helping us to run this project, as well as to LabTech who have donated a space in their building for us to be able to carry out this vital work.

Camden is the fourth largest night-time economy in the country, so ensuring Camden Town provides a vibrant and safe night out for its significant number of visitors is of the utmost importance. Initiatives like the Camden Safety Hub, which we’re proud to support, should give everyone who comes here the confidence to simply enjoy themselves in a secure environment. As owners of Camden Market, we know the role we can play in achieving this and will always look to work proactively with the Council and Police to evolve Camden Town’s night-time offer in a safe and inclusive way.
