Camden pauses to remember

This week Camden will remember those who have lost their lives in war.

A programme of wreath laying at memorials and churches throughout the borough and services of remembrance will begin on Wedesday 10 November 2021. Camden will observe the traditional two-minute silence at 11am on Armistice Day (Thursday 11 November) and the programme of remembrance will culminate on Remembrance Sunday (Sunday 14 November).

Councillor Sabrina Francis, Mayor of Camden
This is a time for Camden to pause, reflect and remember everyone who has died in conflict or had their lives affected by the terrible effects of war.

“Many Camden residents will have grown up knowing family members and friends who served in the World Wars and will remember their contribution and individual sacrifice. We remember the significant involvement people from across the Commonwealth have had and continue to have in our Armed Forces. We remember the servicemen and women who have experienced life-changing injuries or had their mental health affected as a result of war, and a century after it was founded, we thank the British Legion and their Poppy Appeal for the work they do to provide lifelong support to everyone who has been in the Armed Forces.

“War’s devastation sadly continues to touch all corners of the globe. This year we have seen its terrible effects – people made homeless, stateless and desperate, as families of refugees desperately look for safety and the care that any human being deserves. Camden will always be an outward looking borough that seeks to welcome people who need help and we have committed to housing refugees from Afghanistan.
Councillor Sabrina Francis, Mayor of Camden

Funds raised from the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal provide support for thousands of serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. To make a donation visit the Royal British Legion website.
