Camden partner with Brent on scheme to revitalise Kilburn High Road
Work is currently well underway and progressing well on a joint scheme with Brent council to make improvements to part of Kilburn High Road, the second phase in the development of a wider improvement project proposed for the area.
Kilburn High Road is a busy thoroughfare and destination in its own right, with a wide range of shops and businesses that have a distinct character.
However, residents and businesses have told us that the condition of the paving and general appearance of the area could be improved, as well as making it easier, more pleasant and safer to move about the area on foot, bike and scooter and by public transport while also improving the air quality.
The improvements, between Kilburn Station and Dyne Road will include:
- Repaving the pavements to reduce trip hazards and improve the look and feel of the area as well as adding ‘continuous pavements’ across side roads to promote pedestrian safety.
- Planting new trees to help improve air quality and boost biodiversity.
- Replacing existing streetlights with modern lampposts and installing uplighters around all the trees.
- Providing new cycle parking and installing new seating.
- Introducing a new 20mph speed limit to improve road safety.

Councillor Harrison continued:
“Over several years, we along with Brent and Westminster councils, have been working to transform Kilburn High Road to tackle its poor road safety record, and provide a more inviting and accessible experience for everyone who visits the area. The latest improvements follow upgrades to the lower section of Kilburn High Road which have been implemented since the pandemic.
“This June we will start consulting on a wider 'Healthy Town Centre' project for the entire of Kilburn, which will foster a safer, healthier and more pedestrian- and cycle-friendly town centre, where we plan to introduce wider pavements, improved junctions, new cycle crossings, renewed street furniture and changes to waiting and loading.”
- The work on this current phase of the scheme is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2024.
- No changes will be made to the waiting and loading bays as part of this phase of the works. All existing waiting and loading restrictions and arrangements along Kilburn High Road will stay the same.
