Camden launches perpetrator-focused service to tackle domestic abuse

Camden Council has launched a new service for perpetrators of domestic violence, to help change their behaviours and prevent further abuse.

The service is focused on people who have hurt or caused harm to someone they care about. Through regular sessions, a specialist will give non-judgemental support to help understand and reduce this behaviour – including:

  • Understanding different types of domestic abuse
  • Self-awareness and taking accountability
  • Exploring feelings of jealousy
  • Healthy conflict resolution
  • Building empathy

People who have expressed violent thoughts, tendencies, or admitted using abusive behaviours can be referred by professionals including NHS services, police, other council services, and voluntary sector organisations.

The council will also work with survivors who have been harmed or affected by the perpetrator to eliminate any further harm and make sure they get the support they need.

The service, ‘Insight’, is part of the council’s wider work to tackle domestic abuse in Camden.

Domestic abuse of any form is not tolerated in Camden and we’re committed to keeping residents safe. While we continue working hard to support survivors, we’re striving further to stop this behaviour at its root cause.

This service is about prevention – stepping in when warning signs appear and changing mindsets to stop abusive behaviour from happening.
