Camden Green Gym expands

The success of the TCV Green Gym programme was recognised last night with an event to mark Camden’s Oasis Green Gym becoming an independent community organisation.

Having transformed the rooftop terrace of our Oasis Sports Centre into a bountiful food growing space, the Green Gym offers weekly free exercise sessions to anyone interested in keeping fit while improving their local environment.

This milestone coincides with TCV winning a new two year contract to run and expand their programme in Camden.

Since the Green Gym’s Camden launch in 2008 in partnership with Camden and Islington Public Health, the volunteer-led community group has encouraged residents to join forces to improve their local green spaces while burning calories in a fun and unconventional way.

Green Gyms combine physical workouts with practical conservation, with the aim of improving health, boosting confidence and benefiting local green spaces.

Cllr Abdul Hai, Council Cabinet Member for Customers, Communities and Culture
Oasis Green Gym is a fantastic example of how we can work together to provide valuable opportunities to support the health and wellbeing of Camden residents, while improving the local environment at the same time. While being active in the great outdoors, families have an opportunity to grow fruit and vegetables in the heart of the London and I am pleased to watch the initiative grow and expand across the borough.
