Camden expands cargo bike hire scheme
Camden council has expanded OurBike, a scheme provided by Peddle My Wheels, that allows residents and businesses to hire electrically assisted cargo bikes by the hour through an app.
We have expanded our network of cargo bike stations from four to twelve, becoming currently the largest fleet in a London Borough.
Since the launch of OurBike in Camden in September 2024, many people have hired the cargo bikes for a wide range of uses including leisure trips, school runs, and for moving recycling and waste.
OurBike cargo bikes are sturdy three-wheeled vehicles, with electrical assist and a large front box which is perfect for carrying children, lots of shopping or delivering goods.
In the year since the launch, the small number of bikes available in the initial trial were used for 230 round trips, covering a total distance of 2236 kilometres. With this new expansion, we expect these numbers to grow significantly.
By making the cargo bikes cheap and easy to hire both residents and businesses have seen the benefits of this mode of transport over polluting motor vehicles for carrying out deliveries and transporting large or bulky items, perfect if you don’t have the storage space, or finances to buy your own personal cargo bike, but need to use one on occasion.
OurBike cargos are parked on street, near a ‘host’ business that looks after the battery charging for each cargo bike, to be booked, ridden and returned to the same spot. Users will have the option of requesting a free training session.
Councillor Harrison continued:
"35 percent of our residences are within a five-minute walk of an OurBike.
“Bikes can be hired from £5 an hour and new users can try an OurBike for free for an additional hour, on top of the first complimentary hour, using the voucher code new-camden-pr when booking.”

- A limited number of free one-hour hire vouchers are available. Each code can be used once and is valid until 31 December 2025.
- OurBikes in Camden is funded partly through Cross River Partnership (CRP) Healthy Streets Everyday II (HSE II), a three-year project supported by the Mayor of London’s Air Quality Fund in collaboration with 14 project partners, including Horizon Europe. The project aims to address the issue of over-dependence on private vehicles, and the associated issues of poor Air Quality, Environment, Safety, Health, and Wellbeing across six London boroughs and six London Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)
