Camden Council wins national communications award

Our campaign to tackle domestic violence and abuse was recognised at the national Comms2point0 communications 'UnAwards' yesterday, taking home an award for 'Best Use of Video'.

The video was created as part of our ‘know you’re not alone’ campaign, highlighting that domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation or culture. It addresses scenarios including men as victims of abuse, LGBT relationships and honour-based violence, and portrays how abuse isn’t just physical. Along with a full-length short video, each scene was released as a separate mini-video. The videos direct anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse, or knows someone who is, to Camden Safety Net, our dedicated support service.

We’d like to offer our thanks to the wide variety of local organisations and experts who offered their expertise during the research phase of producing the video and helped us share the video with our residents. Organisations including the LGBT charity Galop, Camden LGBT Forum, Hopscotch Asian Women’s Centre, along with independent domestic violence support advisers for BME communities gave us invaluable insight and allowed us to create a powerful video depicting different scenarios and issues relevant to the borough’s demographics.

The judges said, “This video offers a subtle and engaging snapshot into a variety of cases of abuse, portrayed very sympathetically. The increase in referrals, in line with growth in viewing figures, is an excellent demonstration of the success of this most worthy campaign.”

We are committed to tackling domestic violence and abuse in the borough. Alongside our campaigning work we have increased our investment in frontline services, so that we have more people on the ground who can offer safety advice and support to victims and their families. We have also been working with representatives within the criminal justice system to improve outcomes for domestic violence and abuse cases heard in court.

The UnAwards are an opportunity to showcase great work and celebrate a hugely creative and dedicated community.
