Camden Council set to appoint new Chief Executive
Jon Rowney has been recommended for appointment as Camden Council’s new Chief Executive.
Jon Rowney, who is currently Camden Council’s Executive Director of Corporate Services, will take over from current Chief Executive Jenny Rowlands in July.
When we began the search for our next Chief Executive, I was looking for a visionary, purpose-led leader. Someone who shares our values and vision, leads with compassion, curiosity and courage, and is committed to continued learning. Jon embodies all these great qualities, and I’m proud that we have someone of his calibre set to be leading our council.
Jon has been with Camden since 2015, first as Director of Finance and then as Executive Director of Corporate Services. He has led the development and delivery of Camden’s financial strategy – one of our greatest assets that has enabled us to direct our very limited resources towards the areas that will provide the very best support to our residents and communities.
He has championed inclusion and diversity as a senior sponsor within the council, challenging our thinking, removing barriers, and driving forward work to ensure Camden Council reflects and represents the diverse communities that we serve. Jon is a Trustee for Refuge and leads the Council’s mission for ending violence and abuse against women and girls, including domestic violence and abuse – a cause he is deeply committed to.
I also want to recognise the outstanding contributions of our current Chief Executive, Jenny Rowlands, who has transformed our organisation over the six years she has led it. I am immensely grateful for the outstanding legacy she leaves behind and the foundations she has secured for the future generations of our borough.
Full Council will be asked to approve Jon Rowney’s appointment at its Extraordinary Council Meeting on 22 May.
