Camden Council appoints new Executive Director for Homes & Communities
Dan Hawthorn will take the position of Executive Director for Homes & Communities at Camden Council early in the New Year, leading work to develop and deliver our vision for housing in the borough.
Dan has been the Executive Director of Housing and Social Investment at Kensington and Chelsea Council for five and a half years, leading their housing service through significant change during that time. Previous to this, Dan started his career in local government at Camden.
Camden is a really special place for me, personally and professionally. I'm excited to be coming back to where my local government career began, and into an organisation whose values and priorities I so strongly identify with. In particular, Camden's vision for Housing is ambitious and resident-centred, and one that I absolutely share. I can't wait to get started.
I am delighted that Dan will be leading our hard working and dedicated Homes & Communities teams.
Dan’s values, vision and ways of working strongly align with ours, and his strong commitment to work with our communities to deliver for our borough, combined with his deep knowledge and understanding of housing, really shone through during the recruitment process.
I would like to welcome Dan to Camden.
Dan has worked at Kensington and Chelsea since 2020 as Executive Director of Housing and Social Investment and in that time, led the restructuring of their housing service, establishing a strong and successful tenant and leaseholder centred partnership that listens to their residents and acts on their concerns.
Dan also brings his wider experience and understanding in social housing, homelessness and rough sleeping.
The housing crisis has hit central London the hardest and our goal is to get the thousands of families on our waiting list, many who are living in overcrowded conditions, into a safe and suitable home, as well as ensure our existing housing is well-maintained and high-quality.
We must do all we can to ensure our homes are safe, warm and dry and of a quality our residents deserve, and Dan’s role as Executive Director is central to this.
