Camden consults on a vision for Bloomsbury
Camden is consulting on a draft Bloomsbury Vision, a public realm strategy for the area.
Bloomsbury has an incredibly varied history and character, with its Georgian architecture, garden squares and numerous historic institutions—and is home to many people. It includes university campuses and hospitals, hosts major tourist destinations like the British Museum, and is the heart of the Knowledge Quarter.
Bloomsbury sits between King's Cross and Euston and the West End, Soho and Covent Garden. For many people north of the Euston Road, whether residents or visitors, it should be the first part of their journey down towards the Thames.
With the award-winning West End Project complete, the Holborn Vision adopted and the consultation on the Holborn Liveable Neighbourhood Project expected in 2026, we are now consulting on a draft vision for Bloomsbury. This is to bring together ideas and projects across land ownerships, ensuring we create a well-connected, safe and sustainable neighbourhood for the 21st century.
The main aims of the Bloomsbury Vision are:
- To provide an area-based strategy to deliver a green, sustainable, safe and inclusive public realm in Bloomsbury.
- To provide a strategic framework to guide, inform and help develop and prioritise public realm projects in the area.
- To identify opportunities for public realm improvements, highlighting priority projects and plans.
- To encourage and strengthen dialogue between all stakeholders to ensure a holistic and coherent approach to development and change in the area.
Councillor Harrison continued:
“It's vital to gather in the views of residents, workers, students and visitors, to hear how they use and see the future of Bloomsbury.
“The Vision has thus far been drafted in cooperation with the University of London, University College London, Birkbeck and the British Museum, and we are now seeking the views of the wider community.
“A six-week public consultation on the Draft Vision is scheduled to begin on Thursday 30 October 2025 and run until Wednesday 10 December. I therefore encourage everyone with an interest to complete the online consultation.”
