Camden adopts Holborn Vision Supplementary Planning Document
Camden has adopted the Holborn Vision, the sixth and final supplementary planning document to be adopted for Camden’s Growth Areas.
The purpose of these documents is to work with our communities so that they help to shape development in the areas of the Borough that we know are going to undergo change.
No other Council in the country has produced this number of area-based guidance documents in-house and this is one of the reasons we are delivering some of the best new development in the country.
Over the last few years, we’ve listened to thousands of residents as we developed visions for neighbourhoods where we expect change to take place and now it’s Holborn’s turn.
The Holborn Vision is central to guiding development to ensure this vibrant part of central London retains its character but encourages new development to provide jobs and much needed homes including affordable homes.
As well as providing guidance in determining planning applications within the area it covers, the Vision promotes the Holborn Liveable Neighbourhood public realm scheme that will transform the vehicle dominated streets and spaces into climate resilient places for people.
Councillor Harrison continued:
“The Holborn Vision has six overall objectives including developing a genuinely mixed-use neighbourhood that brings together workers, residents and visitors, a place where the existing residential communities are strengthened and enhanced so that residents can stay and thrive and also a place where the distinctive character areas of Holborn are celebrated and enriched.
“These are applied to seven “character areas”. This is because we believe that through the Supplementary Planning Document, we can guide development that responds to local character and ensure high quality buildings and spaces to make Holborn a better place for people to live, work and visit.”
As an adopted Supplementary Planning Document, it is a material consideration when determining planning applications to deliver successful buildings, places, and spaces.
