94 new homes one step closer at Agar Grove – the biggest block of affordable homes to be built as part of Community Investment Programme
Camden marked the topping out of 94 more affordable homes on the Agar Grove Estate at a ceremony last week [5 December] – this will be the largest block of affordable homes to be built so far under Camden’s Community Investment Programme (CIP).
Camden Council held a topping out ceremony on Friday to mark the completion of a building structure which will see a further 94 affordable homes built on the Agar Grove Estate.
The topping out of Agar Grove phase 2a is the fourth phase of the development which has built 220 homes on the site so far, including 141 affordable council homes.
Agar Grove 2a will also be the largest block of social homes built so far under Camden’s flagship CIP with 94 new homes – all of which will be affordable.
Part of Camden’s CIP – the Council’s leading house building programme – the topping out of Agar Grove 2a is another step in Camden’s drive to build more much-needed council homes to help ease housing pressures and reduce Camden’s housing waiting list.
This development will be part of the 4,850 homes set to be built in the borough through CIP, of which 1,800 will be affordable council homes.
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Richard Olszewski joined Camden Cabinet Members Councillor Nasrine Djemai, Cabinet Member for New Homes and Community Investment, Councillor Sagal Abdi-Wali, Cabinet Member for Better Homes as well as representatives from the award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group to mark this next Agar Grove development milestone.
We are doing everything we can to urgently build more council homes to address the housing crisis and support people who are on our housing waitlist. The topping out of Agar Grove 2a gets us one step closer to our goal of building thousands of more homes in Camden. This is also going to be our largest block of social housing built as part of our Community Investment Programme to date with almost 100 more affordable homes on this site.
This just shows that despite a slowdown in building new homes across London, we are not stopping – we have hundreds of homes currently under construction with many more shovel-ready projects waiting to go which will make a huge difference for residents and help ensure people can continue to live in Camden, in high-quality homes they can afford.
The Agar Grove development is the largest Passivhaus scheme in the country, providing energy efficient homes that require low amounts of heating and reduce energy bills by up to 70%.
This project replaces aging blocks built in the 1960s with modern homes and an improved estate design.
It is also the biggest project so far under construction in Camden’s Community Investment Programme. Once completed, there will be a total of 496 new homes in the area, including 274 affordable homes, a shop, café and community hall, gardens and a play area.
Hill provided Camden with £5,000 to support Camden families with childcare, as part of their ongoing social value work. This will be used to pay for childcare to support families in the borough who are returning to work.

Agar Grove phase 1c recently picked up three British Homes Awards; Sustainable Project of the Year and Sustainable Development of the Year, and Camden Council was named Homebuilder of the Year for the project.
