'Together, we can tackle child abuse' - campaign

Camden is supporting a new Department for Education campaign — ‘Together, we can tackle child abuse’.

We all have a role to play in protecting children and young people from child abuse and neglect.

According to the DfE, a third of people who suspect child abuse do nothing - sometimes because they’re worried about being wrong.

You don’t have to be absolutely certain about your suspicions - if you have a feeling that something’s not right, talk to your local children’s social care team who can look into it. Information is usually gathered from many sources, and your report would form one part of a bigger picture.

In 2014/15, more than 400,000 children in England were supported because someone noticed they needed help.

  • If you’re worried about a child living in Camden, or suspect child abuse or neglect, contact Camden MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub).
  • If you think a child is in immediate danger, you should call the police on 999.
  • If you’re worried about a child living in another local authority, or suspect child abuse or neglect, visit gov.uk/report-child-abuse to get the correct contact number.
  • Camden Safeguarding Children Board publishes advice and resources for parents who may be worried about their child's safety or wellbeing, or you can contact our Early Help service for advice.
