This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is out of this world

Camden’s school children are being encouraged to don their spacesuits and climb into their rockets ahead of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a national campaign that promotes the pleasure of reading to primary aged children. This year’s Challenge is Space Chase: an out of this world adventure that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

“Reading a book together can really encourage a love of stories and a lifelong reading adventure, and what better way to fuel the imagination of our children than adventures in space?

“The Challenge is a great opportunity for parents and carers to talk about books as a family and to all share their child’s reading achievements. Camden’s libraries provide a welcoming and convenient location to borrow a wide range of books and access reading groups and activities free of charge.”

Nationally, over 700,000 children will visit their local library whilst taking part in the Challenge each year whilst keeping up their reading skills and confidence during the summer holidays.

Children are invited to sign up to the Challenge, which started on Saturday 20 July 2019. They are asked to read six books over the summer holidays and can collect stickers and gifts as they progress and receive a certificate and medal on completion of the challenge.
