Russell Square: Joint statement from Camden Council and Acting Borough Commander for Camden

Joint statement from Councillor Sarah Hayward, Leader of Camden Council and Superintendent Mike Hill, Acting Borough Commander for Camden, following the incident in Russell Square on Wednesday, 3 August 2016:

"We are deeply saddened by the attack which led to the death of an American tourist in Russell Square and injuries to five other people.

"The police investigation into this incident continues. The incident appears to have been spontaneous and the police have confirmed that this is not linked to a terrorist threat.

"We want to reassure all residents, businesses and visitors to Camden that events like last night are rare in our borough. Nevertheless, additional police patrols are in place across London, and in Camden, joint-working with Council teams are underway. Keeping everyone in Camden safe is our priority

"The Police and Camden Council will continue to work closely together to to provide reassurance to everyone in Camden and to continue to make our borough a great place live, work and visit."
