New mayor installed

Gospel Oak ward councillor, Larraine Revah, has been installed as Mayor of Camden for the forthcoming year.

In a ceremony at the Town Hall last night (20 May), Cllr Revah succeeded Cllr Lazzaro Pietragnoli, whom she served as deputy last year.

Cllr Revah's deputy will be Councillor Nadia Shah.

Her mayoral theme will be to promote awareness and a greater understanding across our communities of the difficulties people with disabilities face on a daily basis and to ensure we have a community where everyone has a chance to succeed.

During her mayoral year the new mayor will be raising money for her chosen charity KIDS, which cares for more than 8,000 disabled children, young people and their families every year by delivering around 140 services across England.

This is a cause that is close to her heart as she has a severely disabled daughter and a son with special education needs and needed the help and support of the charity for the first five years of her daughter's life before she went to a specialist school.

During her mayoral year her consort will be her husband Benny Revah, her mother Sonia Greenwald, her son Amir Revah, her cousin Leora Berman, friends; Jenny Flavill, Sima Awad, Susie Gilbert, Cllr Pat Callaghan; and Julie Tucker, Assistant Director, KIDS.

Cllr Revah has thrown herself into working for the community and has involved herself in many volunteer and charitable activities.

This has included providing 1:1 support for disabled children while working for the Pre-school Learning Alliance and organising a luncheon club for older people.

She has also been Chair of the Children, Schools and Families Scrutiny Committee; Cabinet Member for Children Schools and Families and has served as the Older People's Champion since 2011. She also chairs the Quality of Life Panel and sits on the Sheltered Blocks and Sensory Reform panels.
