Make your street a Play Street

A Play Street is a street closed off to traffic for a few hours on a regular basis, allowing children to play out, and neighbours to meet up.

Running around, making new friends and inventing new games are just some of the joys of playing outdoors.

Play Streets are organised and run by local residents, with the Council organising the closure of the road to traffic. While the street will be closed to through traffic, people living on the street will still be able to drive to and from their homes at a slow pace.

Applying for a Play Street

If this sounds like a great way for your children to have fun playing out in their neighbourhood, why not set up a Play Street? You will need to talk to your neighbours and get their agreement to set up a Play Street, decide on the day and times you want it to happen and submit an application. If we receive your application by 1 July 2015 you could have a Play Street up and running in September. Once approved, your street will become a Play Street and you won’t need to apply again unless you want to change something. Let the fun begin!
