Leader of Camden Council reacts to Article 50

“Whether you voted to leave the European Union, or were one of the 75% of residents in Camden who voted remain, there can be no doubt that there is too much uncertainty about what the true impact will be now that Article 50 has been triggered. I want to reassure all residents that this council will continue to press the Government strongly for the best possible outcome for Camden as negotiations with the EU progress.

“Camden is a world in one borough. Our mix of cultures and nationalities has shaped the borough we are proud to call home and it is of the utmost importance to me that all our communities continue to feel welcome and at home here. We will continue to press the Government to reassure EU nationals over their status in the UK.

“Our borough is a key driver of the UK economy and generates 2% of all national economic output. Through St Pancras we are the major business and tourist arrival point from Europe by rail. It is for all of these reasons that it’s vital that Camden’s voice is heard throughout this process.

“We will continue to deliver the vital services and development projects that Camden needs to continue to grow and prosper. What we need from the government are assurances that Camden’s success will not be stunted in any way as a result of Brexit negotiations. Like everyone else, we’ll be watching very closely and holding them to account.”
