HS2: Help us name the HS2 replacement housing blocks

We are inviting Camden residents to help us name the eight new HS2 replacement housing blocks on the Regent’s Park Estate.

Camden Council is currently building replacement homes for all council tenants and resident leaseholders set to lose their homes due to High Speed 2 (HS2), the new railway from London to Birmingham. Construction has commenced on six of the sites and should be completed by autumn 2017, ready for residents to move ahead of HS2 Ltd’s demolition works. Camden Council secured funding from HS2 Ltd for the replacement homes.

Have your say

The housing blocks on the Regent’s Park Estate are named after lakes in the Lake District. To continue this theme, we have shortlisted 16 names inspired by fells in the Lake District:

  • Calva
  • Rampsgill
  • Bowfell
  • Hart Crag
  • Kentmere
  • Whinlatter
  • Roswick
  • Lingmoor
  • Caudale
  • Mardale
  • Lindale
  • Ulverstone
  • Ravenglass
  • Pooley
  • Kirkfell
  • Stonethwaite

The list was developed by the HS2 replacement housing working group and ward councillors. The names have been verified by emergency services as acceptable for building addresses.

You can select up to three preferred names on the shortlist here: consultations.wearecamden.org/communications-strategy-improvement/hs2-help-us-name-the-replacement-housing-blocks

We will select the final names based on your feedback. You have until 15 May to tell us your favourite names.

HS2 Hybrid Bill

We expect Royal Assent to be given on the HS2 Hybrid Bill at the end of 2016, which would give HS2 Ltd authority to build the railway. If plans for HS2 do go ahead, the Secretary of State for Transport will require 220 homes in the Euston area to be demolished to make way for the HS2 scheme. Under HS2 Ltd’s current programme, these homes would be needed for demolition at the start of 2018.

Camden Council opposes plans for HS2 as currently proposed. If the Government does go ahead with the scheme, Camden is committed to securing the best deal for our communities.
