Department for Transport tours Euston to discuss HS2

On Thursday 21 June, Nusrat Ghani, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport toured Euston with Keir Starmer, MP for Holborn and St Pancras, Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council and Councillor Danny Beales, Camden Council Member for Investing in Communities.

Councillor Georgia Gould said:

“We invited the Department for Transport to come and personally tour the Euston area to view the current and scheduled works associated with HS2, to see first-hand the impact of HS2 and understand how this effects our residents, visitors and businesses.

“We used this opportunity to highlight our ongoing concerns relating to the prolonged disturbance and disruption that our residents and businesses face over a 17 year construction programme.

“We reaffirmed the need for a comprehensive approach to the design of the HS2 and Network Rail stations to ensure the objectives of the Euston Area Plan including the delivery of much needed homes, jobs, open spaces and other community facilities are met.

“Our commitment to take a leading role in influencing developing designs and thinking around Euston through the development of the planning brief and our work with the local community will be crucial to this.”

Keir Starmer MP said:

“It is right that Nusrat Ghani has come to Euston to see for herself the impact of HS2 on local residents.

“It's an important opportunity for me to be able to raise key constituency concerns directly with the Government Minister responsible for HS2, and an important opportunity for Ms. Ghani's department to understand and respond to the very real challenges that HS2 poses to Euston's residents and its wider community.”
