Contractor appointed for extra-care homes and new base for Camden Carers Service

In early 2019, construction will start on 38 new extra-care homes for people who need support to live independently. The new homes, which will be located on Crogsland Road in Chalk Farm, will also include a shared garden, ground floor lounge and dining areas for residents. The project will include a new base for Camden Carers Service.

These new facilities are being funded through our Community Investment Programme and form our plans for a new Charlie Ratchford Centre. Over the summer we appointed Galliford Try Partnerships to undertake construction and residents had their first opportunity to meet them on 3 October.

Councillor Pat Callaghan, Cabinet member for Tackling Health Inequality and Promoting Independence, said:

"This is another excellent project from our Community Investment Programme.

"We believe in investing in services which raise the quality of life for our most vulnerable residents. When completed, the new facilities will be vital in helping us provide care that our older residents need and deserve."

Ray Toft, Managing Director of Galliford Try Partnerships London, said: “We have extensive experience building homes for older people and are delighted to be working in partnership with Camden Council to bring forward this important new scheme.”
