Celebrate the finale of a fantastic Olympic Games

The excitement continues with another week of our summer programme

As the Rio 2016 Olympics come to a close and Britain brings home a record number of away medals, the annual summer programme continues with a variety of free and low cost events happening across the borough.

Taking inspiration from all things Brazil, our Camden Sentido programme, which celebrates the sensory connections between Camden and Brazil, continues with the next free Project Yemanjá workshops on Friday 19 August and Friday 26 August. Come along and transform recycled paper into beautiful flowers – these flowers will form part of the Project Yemanjá celebration on 27 August where all the flowers created over the summer will set sail on a barge down Regent’s Canal.

Camden is staying in the sporting spirit with a free family badminton session at Somers Town Community Sports Centre this Saturday 20 August, from 12noon to 2pm.

If you have children who are feeling inspired by Team GB, they can try a very different sporting competition on Sunday 21 August. JW3 will host the annual Mind Sports Olympiad, an international competition of games and mental skill. Events include chess tournaments, Tetris championships and a general knowledge quiz for all ages. The sessions start at 10am and cost £10 per single session, £15 per double session.

Or if you need a break from the TV, get outside and explore the local area with a free Sensing Kings Cross walking tour as part of Camden Sentido this Sunday 21 August at 11am. Led by the Camden Tour Guides Association, the walk is sure to excite all five of the senses.

The summer fun continues long after the last medal has been won with Tuesday 23 August's Games Zone for under 12s at Pancras Square library. For something creative, head to Kenwood House on Tuesday 23 August and Wednesday 24 August from 2 to 3pm to bring paintings to life with Summer Quest and Craft.

With the Paralympics on the horizon, there is plenty more sporting and Brazilian inspired activities in store throughout Camden. Watch this space for the latest updates.
