Camden steps up its support for homeless and older residents as temperatures plummet

Camden Council is providing a range of help for its most vulnerable residents as night temperatures drop to freezing and below.

The Council is providing additional ‘severe weather beds’ for its Safer Streets team to refer rough sleepers to, providing food and referral to other support services where possible.

Councillor Jonathan Simpson, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and the Voluntary Sector
“No-one should be sleeping outside any time of the year, let alone in these freezing temperatures. Camden Council is committed to offering a route off the street for every person who ends up rough sleeping in our borough and keeping our residents warm and healthy.”
Councillor Jonathan Simpson, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and the Voluntary Sector

The Council also has advice for residents who are struggling to keep their home warm or who are facing high energy bills.

By ringing the free-phone Green Camden Helpline residents can get free energy saving advice such as no-cost and low cost tips, how to switch energy tariff or supplier and what to do if you are in fuel debt. Residents can also find out if they qualify for one of Camden’s free Well and Warm home energy advice visits, a discount on their energy and/or water bills or an energy efficiency grant for insulation or heating improvements.
